Number Battled and Brilliant Pokémon

How battling a species over and over raises its shiny odds in Sword and Shield.

Sword and Shield count how many of each species you have defeated or caught ("Number Battled" in the Pokédex). A higher count makes glowing Brilliant Pokémon appear more often, and Brilliant Pokémon get extra shiny rolls.

Important

• Only Brilliant Pokémon get the boost. Ordinary wild Pokémon stay at normal odds, however high your count is.
• The bonus maxes out at a count of 500.
• Pokémon too high-level to catch with your current Badges cannot be shiny (static encounters aside).
