What is DexNav hunting?

Sneaking up on hidden Pokémon in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

The DexNav lets you search for a specific Pokémon hiding in the area and sneak up on it. Each species has a Search Level that grows the more you encounter it, and a higher level improves the chance of a shiny.

How the odds work

DexNav shinies do not use simple extra rolls. The game runs its own check that can force a hidden Pokémon to be shiny. That chance grows with Search Level, and the Shiny Charm adds extra checks. There is also a small random bonus, and the 50th and 100th Pokémon in a DexNav chain get a big one-off boost.

If the forced check fails, the Pokémon can still be shiny at the normal rate.

Tips

• Repels do not stop hidden Pokémon from appearing, so they help you avoid random battles while you chain.
• Sneak by tilting the Circle Pad gently. Walking normally close by scares the Pokémon off, and that breaks the chain.
• The chain grows when you defeat or catch a hidden Pokémon. Running away, or letting the Pokémon flee, breaks it.
