ShinyHuntWhat is the Shiny Charm?
The key item that adds extra shiny rolls, and how it changes from game to game.
The Shiny Charm is a key item first added in Black 2 and White 2. While it is in your bag, the game makes extra shiny rolls for each Pokémon, which roughly triples your odds in most games.
How much it helps
- Black 2 and White 2: about 1 in 2,731 (up from 1 in 8,192).
- X and Y through Scarlet and Violet: about 1 in 1,365 (up from 1 in 4,096).
- Legends: Arceus and Legends: Z-A: three extra rolls instead of two, about 1 in 1,024.
It stacks with most other boosts, including the Masuda Method.
When it does not help
- Gifts, in-game trades and Mystery Gift Pokémon.
- Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: breeding only. No effect on wild encounters or the Poké Radar.
- Breeding in Gen 8 and Gen 9 (Sword, Shield, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, Scarlet, Violet): a bug skips the first roll, so Charm-only eggs (no Masuda Method) are about 1 in 2,048 instead of 1 in 1,365. Masuda + Charm is still 1 in 512.
- Sword and Shield: no effect on Max Raid dens and some special encounters.
- Scarlet and Violet: no effect on Tera Raids, wild Tera Pokémon or fixed wandering encounters.
How to get it
You usually earn it by completing the Pokédex. Which Pokédex depends on the game; see the table.
