ShinyHuntWhat is SOS chaining?
Chaining calls for help in Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
In Gen 7, a wild Pokémon can call for help in battle. Each answered call grows a chain, and at chain lengths of 11, 21 and 31 the allies it calls get extra shiny rolls.
How to keep calls coming
- Lower the caller's HP. Pokémon below half HP call much more often, and False Swipe can leave them at 1 HP.
- Use an Adrenaline Orb. It only works once per battle, but its boost lasts the whole battle.
- A lead with Intimidate, Pressure or Unnerve makes calls more likely to be answered.
- Don't inflict status conditions. A Pokémon with a status condition will not call for help.
- The chain ends when the battle ends, so keep a Pokémon on the field that can keep calling.
Sun and Moon vs Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
In Sun and Moon the chain counter wraps back to 0 after 255. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon fixed this, so long chains keep their bonus. In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon a wild Pokémon only calls once per battle unless you use an Adrenaline Orb.
